Dougherty County Brings Books to Community Center

Dougherty County Rotarians just invested in the Driskell Community Center in Albany - donating books, a new bookcase, and their time to create a reading space for the neighborhood. The Driskell Community Center serves children, families, and adults in the surrounding community with programs throughout the year.

Rotary members wanted to add something lasting to that work: a place where visitors of any age can pick up a book and read. Next came the bookcase. A team of members unpacked the parts, read the instructions (mostly), and put it together on site. Once it was standing, members filled the shelves.

The bookcase is just the start. Rotary members plan to return to the Driskell Community Center to volunteer with the programs it offers for both kids and adults. This kind of hands-on work is what Rotary is about: neighbors showing up for neighbors. The Dougherty County Rotary Club thanks the Driskell Community Center staff for welcoming its members and looks forward to spending more time there in the months ahead.
