Monday's Speaker: Sam Donaldson, interim associate dean of Academic Affairs and Professor of Law, Georgia State University

Professor Donaldson is an interim associate dean of Academic Affairs and professor of law at Georgia State University College of Law. Prior to joining the College of Law in 2012, Professor Donaldson was on the faculty at the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle for 13 years. During his tenure at the University of Washington, he was a five-time recipient of the Philip A. Trautman Professor of the Year award from the School of Law's Student Bar Association. Professor Donaldson served for two years as Associate Dean for Academic Administration and for six years as the Director of the law school's Graduate Program in Taxation.

Dani, this year’s Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP) student from Brazil, arrived this week and will begin attending Oglethorpe University later this month. Her host parents, Beth and Bob Howell, are excited to welcome her and ensure she has a memorable year exploring all that Atlanta and Georgia have to offer. Please take a moment to get to know Dani who will attend our Monday meetings, beginning on August 11th. 

August 7: Message from the President

Thanks to all our members who attended Monday’s meeting and to those that brought guests. We had the highest attendance that we’ve had in some time. Chef Kevin Rathbun shared his leadership lessons and how you can teach people how to do their jobs, but not how to be nice. Don’t miss out on our Monday meetings and suffer from Fear of Missing Rotary (FOMR!)  We have excellent speakers, more checks to give out throughout the year and additional Thanks a Latte members to recognize. 

Please consider coming early for networking with your fellow Rotarians.  This is one of the best times to build goodwill and better friendships. 

And what a motivating speech from Sarabeth Gump and Gregory Frazier, two Eagle Scouts from the Atlanta Area Council of Scouting America this past Monday. These remarkable young adults exemplified perseverance, determination, leadership, teamwork, and a positive spirit. It’s an important focus for my presidency to recognize Rotarians doing good in our club. Please nominate your fellow Rotarians who deserve a sincere thank you for their dedication. Whether they've consistently shown up, lent a hand, or gone above and beyond. Simply send their name and a brief description of why you are nominating them to Jim Coleman jcolemanoss72@gmail.com.  

These awards are given out at various intervals throughout the year. Whenever you experience Rotarians doing good, please take a moment to nominate them.  

August 8: Member Updates

We have three Rotarians that can use your cheer. Steve Bethea, a member since 1978 and is homebound. Please send him your best wishes. 

Maggi O’Brien will be undergoing foot surgery on August 11th. Please reach out to her and wish her good luck. We know you got this Maggi! 

Jimmy Paulk is recovering well from his ankle surgery last week. I spoke to him, and he is in good spirits but will need to stay off his ankle for the next few weeks.  Spread some Rotary cheer and check in on his recuperation.
